Global Search Using A New Evolutionary Framework: The Adaptive Reservoir Genetic Algorithm Cristian Munteanu, Vasile Lazarescu
Abstract
	In this paper we introduce a new search heuristic based on a Genetic Algorithm structure, called Adaptive Reservoir Genetic Algorithm (ARGA). This search mechanism reduces the loss of genetic diversity, present in most of Genetic Algorithms, by employing an adaptive mutant subpopulation called reservoir. We present preliminary theoretical considerations and heuristics that support ARGA. These considerations, as well as the experimental results obtained on three optimisation test functions, show that ARGA is an effective optimisation heuristic, less affected by premature convergence and genetic drift, that are common problems in many Genetic Algorithms.
